What a stunning piece of history.

This Victorian mourning locket, made out of a solid piece of banded agate, has an 18K yellow gold star set in its oval face that's filled with natural gray pearls. Topped with a gold, pearl, and black enamel bail, the back of the piece has a removable piece of gold-bezeled glass intended to cover a photograph or note. Currently behind the glass is an original note that simply says "Tresco Abbey," which is the name of a garden in the United Kingdom.

What makes it special: As mourning jewelry goes, this is an incredible piece of art. It's made of a single piece of banded agate that's been hollowed out and outfitted with a fitted gold bezel. When you take into account the relatively primitive tools available at the end of the 19th century when it was made, the craftsmanship of this pendant is in a league all its own.

How to Wear with Care

Jewelry is meant to be worn, but it's also an expensive ornament. Here are a few suggestions to extend the life of your jewelry:

  • We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or another trusted jeweler every six months.
  • You should remove your rings before swimming or performing any household cleaning, as harsh chemicals can interact with precious metals and permanently damage some stones.
  • Generally, we suggest that you do not wear your jewelry to the gym, in the shower, at the pool, or while sleeping.

We do not sell what we cannot service. Should an issue arise, please get in touch. We offer an extensive range of repair services and are here to help!
