This is such an interesting piece!

Admittedly, we don't know much about it. What we do know is that it's a ceremonial pin for the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, a fraternal organization founded in New York City in 1905 by and for Italian-American immigrants. According to their official website, the Order's aim was to create a support system for all Italian immigrants that would assist them with becoming U.S. citizens, provide health/death benefits and educational opportunities, and offer assistance with assimilation in America.

This pin is the badge of the "Asst Venerabile," which is the rank of "Assistant Venerable". It is made of brass and enamel and features the words "Libertà, Uguaglianza, Fraternità" in round, which translate to "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity," which is the official motto of the French Republic translated into Italian. Underneath the lion are the letters "O.F.D'I. in A." which is shorthand for "Ordine Figli d’Italia in America."

Jewelry is meant to be worn, but it's also an expensive ornament. Here are a few helpful suggestions to extend the life of your jewelry:

  • We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or your trusted local jeweler every six months.
  • You should remove your rings before swimming or performing any household cleaning, as harsh chemicals can interact with precious metals and permanently damage some stones.
  • Generally, we suggest that you do not wear your jewelry to the gym, in the shower, or while sleeping.

We do not believe in selling something we cannot service. Should an issue arise, please get in touch. We offer an extensive range of repair services and are here to help!
