Jet is a fascinating material. It's essentially wood that's compressed and fossilized under intense pressure over the course of millions of years. Popularized by Queen Victoria in the mid 1800s as part of her mourning dress, its use reached its apex in the early 1870s.
These dramatic geometric earrings measure 3.1" in length and have three jet spikes crowned by a carved oval piece. Each of the individual parts are joined together with 14K yellow gold jump rings and the earrings fasten to the ears securely with a closed loop ear wire.
