This Victorian opal cluster ring began life as a stickpin, its flower-like head worn on a lapel or cravat in the late 19th century. At its center is a translucent round jelly opal of approximately 2.50 carats that holds drifting flashes of green, orange, and red play-of-color in a warm, glassy body. Because it was made as a stickpin, the opal sits in a closed-back setting, a period detail that has kept it protected for well over a century.

Ten old mine cut diamonds, approximately 1.70 carats total, form the halo. Each one is set in its own crisp claw prong, and small gold beads sit between the stones. The 18K gold head has a scalloped, petal-shaped gallery that is just as pretty from the side as from above.

To make the head wearable as a ring, we cast a new 14K yellow gold shank, molded from an original Art Deco engraved band. Its floral pattern adds a second layer of antique charm to this one-of-a-kind antique opal and diamond ring.
