This immaculate Victorian pendant, circa the late 1800s, is comprised of a 14 karat yellow gold pin with a black enamel square spiral pattern and white enamel contrasts that supports an oval piece of onyx. The onyx has a gold and seed pearl lily-of-the-valley, also known as the "ladder to heaven," which represents a return to happiness and, by extension, a reuniting with the dead.
The back of the onyx has a hidden compartment covered by a piece of glass with gold bezel. The glass is tight in its setting and does pop out for storing a memento. This piece is constructed in such a way that allows for the onyx pendant to slide off, enabling the pin to be worn alone or with a different pendant. Both components are in excellent condition.
