At the center of this ring sits a large white opal, cut as a tall oval cabochon and held aloft on six delicate claws that let its dome catch the light from every angle. The play of color is the real draw here — rated a 3 on the fire scale, the stone shifts through blue, violet, red, orange, and green as it turns, set against a milky grey, opalescent ground.

Eighteen natural rubies encircle the opal in a tight halo, their faceted red deepening the cooler tones of the opal by contrast rather than competing with them. The white gold mount features a pierced, scrolling gallery beneath the stones and an open, architectural shoulder that tapers gracefully into the shank. It's the kind of hand-finished and detail work that belongs to an earlier era of jewelry making, when a ring's underside was worked with as much care as its face.
