A striking example of mid-20th century Soviet goldsmithing, this bold cocktail ring pairs a richly saturated amethyst with an elaborately pierced gold mounting. The shank and shoulders are worked in open filigree, featuring a geometric lattice punctuated by curvilinear scroll motifs—a construction technique requiring considerable skill and one that gives the ring a remarkable lightness despite its substantial visual presence.

The center stone, an oval-cut amethyst, is held in a smooth bezel setting that frames the stone cleanly and lets its medium-to-deep violet color take center stage. The stone shows good transparency and lively faceting throughout.

The outside of the shank is stamped with the Soviet 583 hallmark (equivalent to 14-karat gold), along with a sickle and hammer state assay mark—a detail that firmly places this piece within the Soviet jewelry tradition, most likely from the 1960s–1970s. This is a wearable piece of Cold War-era craft history that works equally well as a statement ring or a conversation piece.

How to Wear with Care

Jewelry is meant to be worn, but it's also an expensive ornament. Here are a few suggestions to extend the life of your jewelry:

  • We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or another trusted jeweler every six months.
  • You should remove your rings before swimming or performing any household cleaning, as harsh chemicals can interact with precious metals and permanently damage some stones.
  • Generally, we suggest that you do not wear your jewelry to the gym, in the shower, at the pool, or while sleeping.

We do not sell what we cannot service. Should an issue arise, please get in touch. We offer an extensive range of repair services and are here to help!
